We are pleased to announce an exciting new chapter for Hannan Associates following the completion of a management buyout, coinciding with the retirement of director John Walker.

Long-standing directors Ian Joyce and Jamie Hall, who have been with the company for 42 and 32 years respectively, are leading the business through its next phase of growth and development. Following the completion of the MBO, Ian and Jamie are now the main board directors, supported by an experienced and long-serving senior management team.

After almost 50 years as an electrical design engineer and 30 years as a director of Hannan Associates, John stepped down from the main board in October 2026 and will leave the business in December 2026.

Reflecting on John’s contribution to the company, Ian Joyce, director and majority shareholder, said: “Over the last 30 years, John has helped build Hannan Associates into the business it is today, leading countless projects and developing valuable client relationships. As a vital mentor, he has also driven the team’s continued development.

“We are hugely grateful for his contribution and wish him every happiness in retirement.”

John Walker added: “Having been part of Hannans for 30 years, it has been a privilege to contribute to the development of the business and to work alongside so many talented colleagues, clients and consultants.

“The relationships we have built over the years have always been a fundamental part of what makes Hannan Associates special, and I would like to thank everyone who has been part of that journey.

“I leave knowing that the business has a strong team in place to take it forward, and I wish everyone success for the future.”

Strengthening our Leadership Team

Alongside the management buyout, we have further strengthened our leadership team, with Tom Cutt becoming a director in recognition of his continued contribution to the company. He joins fellow director Andy Carrington and marketing director Vicky Priestley in supporting Ian and Jamie as the business moves forward.

Jamie Hall, director and shareholder, commented: “Our growth in recent years, in particular within the residential and commercial sectors, is thanks to the continued hard work and commitment of the whole team. As our business evolves, we know it is vital to maintain a strong and sustainable leadership team to help ensure our continued success.

“Andy, Tom and Vicky have been a part of this growth, and they will each play a critical role in the future development of the company.”

The strengthened leadership team reflects Hannan Associates’ commitment to developing talent and recognising the contribution of long-serving employees. Andy joined the practice in 1998 as an apprentice mechanical design engineer, Vicky joined as a marketing graduate in 2003, and Tom joined in 2015 as a graduate mechanical design engineer.

John’s Legacy

During his time at Hannan Associates, John has led MEP and utilities strategies for a wide range of significant developments, including the Manchester Commonwealth Games Stadium, the refurbishment of Liverpool’s St George’s Hall, Stockport Exchange for Muse, the Liverpool Waters masterplan for Peel, Omega Warrington for Millers, Symmetry Park Kettering for Tritax and the Brunel University masterplan.

While John will be greatly missed, we are very excited for him as he embarks on this next chapter. John has been instrumental in building the business into what it is today, and we are deeply grateful for his 30 years of leadership and dedication.

The management team is working closely with John to ensure a seamless handover, and where he is working with you on a live project or enquiry, we will be in contact  to make introductions to the Director who will be leading each project going forward following John’s retirement. The day to day running of projects should mostly remain business as usual though.
