Planning Submitted for Swizzels at Ma6nitude

Hannans are currently working for Tritax Symmetry, providing MEP Consultancy for the delivery of a 158,000 sq ft manufacturing facility for Swizzels Matlow.

The new facility will be an expansion of the confectioner’s current manufacturing capability and involves a significant additional investment in new manufacturing plant and machinery.

A planning application for the project has been submitted.

We are very pleased to join AEW Architects, RPS and Shepherd Gilmour on the project design team.

MA6NITUDE is one of the North West’s largest manufacturing and logistics parks and is based in Middlewich close to junction 18 of the M6 motorway. The park is already home to B&M Retail, Wincanton and Kuehne + Nagel and there is capacity to deliver a further 2.2m sq ft of new manufacturing and logistics space.

Hannan Associates are experts in Building Services Engineering and Infrastructure solutions for the industrial sector and In total we have helped our clients with the development of over 3.0 million square feet of industrial and logistics space. Planning Submitted for Store Street Manchester

Planning Submitted for Store Street Manchester

Amidst all the difficulties, it has been great to see positive news emerging from our industry; signs that deals are still being done, clients pushing forward with development plans and the planning system still moving.

We were very pleased to see the Store Street residential scheme submitted for planning in April.

Store Street is an affordable housing scheme situated along the Ashton Canal in the Piccadilly Village area of Manchester. The scheme, being developed by Clarion Housing and H20 Urban, includes 63 new apartments and 3 town houses, which are to be constructed over 11 storeys.

Hannan Associates have been appointed to develop the MEP services design, undertake design stage Part L Compliance checks and to produce an Energy Statement in support of the planning application which has been submitted to Manchester City Council.

The apartments consist of one and two bed types and are contained within a triangular shaped block on the lower levels, with a more traditional block tower construction emanating at six storeys high. Each of the 2-bed town houses is enveloped by the building and are constructed over ground and the first level, with each being accessed directly off Store Street.

At handover, fifty percent of the car parking spaces will be supplied by electric vehicle charge points, with passive provision for the remaining 50% of spaces. Secure cycle storage has also been included and a proportion of ‘green space’ incorporated into the scheme design by provision of an accessible terrace area on the sixth level.

It is currently proposed that an ‘all-electric’ services strategy will be adopted for both the apartments and the town houses in order to help future-proof the homes and contribute towards Manchester’s 2038 Net Zero Carbon Target.

Other members of the team include AHR Architects, WSP, Chroma Consulting and Walker Sime.

Hannans have supported our clients with the delivery of residential accommodation to the value of around £400M in recent years. We have played a key role in developments for the For Sale, Private Rental, High End, Social and Retirement markets. Meet the Team Q&A: Tom Cutt

Meet the Team Q&A: Tom Cutt

Name: Tom Cutt

Role: Mechanical Design Engineer

Years at Hannans: 5

How did you become a building services engineer?

During my time at school and college I worked in a garage assisting with car repairs and services, as I had always wanted to own and maintain my own classic car. Alongside my interest in mechanics and how things work, I found myself performing better in science-based subjects, which meant a degree in Mechanical Engineering was the ideal course.

After completing my degree, I returned to work as a bar supervisor whilst searching for permanent jobs. My employer had previously run an engineering firm and he recommended Hannan’s. After making initial contact, I was invited to two interviews and started with Hannan soon after.

What’s your favourite thing about your job?

I find it really satisfying to get involved on a project at an early stage and develop the M&E strategies, begin to present these on drawings, then see the various services installed as drawn when the project advances to construction phases.

Out of all the projects you’ve been involved with have you got a favourite and why?

The majority of my experience stems from the commercial and residential sectors and of these projects one of my favourites has been the Oakfield 4 development, which is currently under construction at Cheadle Royal Business Park.

The building is modest in size, however the design team have had to overcome a number of challenges as a result of some tenant specific requirements. The proposed tenant is a prestigious American multi-national chemical corporation, who will use the building as their new UK headquarters and incorporates research & development facilities.

How has the industry changed since you first started your career?

Even in the relatively short time I’ve been in the industry; there has been a significant shift towards BIM protocol and Revit, which helps in co-ordinating with other disciplines early on in the design stages of a project.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

In my spare time I try to keep active both in the gym and by running. I also play rugby and (try to play) golf.

If you weren’t an engineer, what would you be?

If I wasn’t an engineer; I would have liked to join one of the armed forces.

Hello, from our homes to yours!

Hello, from our homes to yours!

How is everyone doing six weeks into lock-down?

Team Hannan have settled into working from home and everyone is doing a brilliant job of maintaining ‘business as usual.’ With a little help from the miracle of modern technology we remain apart yet connected.

We are increasingly thankful to all the key workers, selflessly risking their safety to continue to provide essential services for us during this time and we feel very proud of how UK communities & businesses have come together to support each other and help fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

We are thankful for our strong client base and the interesting projects that are keeping us busy and we are each making the most of the additional free time we do have to reflect and take stock; learn new skills & hobbies; exercise; bake; read and catch up with friends and family.

Although maintaining a positive outlook towards the unknown territory that still faces us, we very much look forward to things gradually returning to something even vaguely resembling the ‘old normal’ and seeing people in the flesh again soon!

We think that it’s important to maintain contact with one another now more than ever, so if you fancy a virtual coffee and catch up or perhaps have a query about a project please get in touch…….

Stay safe everyone!

Welcome to the team Jack Hopper

We are very pleased to introduce you to Jack Hopper, the latest member of the Hannan team.

Jack has joined Hannan Associates as a thermal modeller to strengthen our building physics and energy modelling team and help continue to meet the increasing demand for this service.

We wish him much luck and happiness in his new role.

Welcome Jack!

“I am very invested in developing designs for high performing buildings and becoming a part of the dynamic team at Hannan. There are lots of exciting projects that I am looking forward to being a part of. It is my priority to create comfortable and usable buildings, and my engineering background brings a fundamental understanding of physics that can be used to develop quality buildings, optimised to perform at their best.”

Our Building Physics team is led by experts in the assessment of building energy usage. Using the latest dynamic thermal modelling software the team work closely with clients at the early stages of the building design process to help make informed decisions about the most effective ways to design their buildings to maximise comfort and ease of use for tenants, whilst minimising energy usage and carbon output.

Please just drop us an email if you would like a chat about how we can help you.
