2023 marks 40 years since Bill Hannan first established
Hannan Associates back in 1983……..
1983 – 1987
Bill Hannan, aged 41, Starts William E Hannan & Associates from his house in Charlsworth, Derbyshire. Working from his dining room alongside Ian Joyce, George Bell and Wendy Morgan.
Bill Hannan buys what will eventually become the company’s first office premises. A 200 year old stone building in Compstall, which was orginally home to the Compstall Co-operative Industrial Society – formed in 1850.
We started work on the £150 million Harbour Exchange development on the Isle of Dogs, London.
We started work on Le Mielle luxury residential scheme in Jersey.
We started working for the Ministry of Hajj on a series of mosque schemes in Saudi Arabia.
William E Hannan & Associates is registered with Companies House as a limited company.
1987 – 1990
Terry Fildes joins Hannan Associates as an Electrical Engineer.
Hannans Started work on Exchange Quay, Salford.
Barbara Joyce (then Priestley) joins Hannan Associates.
Philippa Spivey first joins Hannan Associates.
The Compstall office premises, named Orlando House, have now been fully refurbished and we host the ‘William E Hannan Grand Champagne Buffet’ to celebrate.
We start work on the refurbishment of St Georges Hall in Liverpool.
We start work on Eureka Children’s Museum in Halifax.
1990 – 1994
We start work on Walker Business Park.
The early 90s recession – we entered a period of economic downturn.
We worked on the reconstruction of the West stand at Old Trafford.
We worked on the new Kippax Stand at Maine Road for MCFC.
Jamie Hall joins Hannan Associates as a junior Mechanical Engineer.
1995 – 1998
The 30 year old north stand at Old Trafford was demolished and work started on construction of a new Stand raising capacity to 55,000.
Carolyn Sidebotham joins Hannan Associates.
John Walker joins Hannan Associates.
We start working for BT on their Workstyle 2000 Programme.
Work on the Reebok Stadium completes.
Carl Pickford and Andrew Carrington join Hannan Associates as apprentice engineers.
1999 – 2000
We start working on the Manchester Commonwealth Games stadium for Manchester City Council.
Rob Shaw joins Hannan Associates to run our CAD and IT department.
We bought our domain name “hannan-uk.com” and built our first website.
Second tiers are added to the East and West Stands at Old Trafford.
The company trading name changes to Hannan Associates.
Hannan Associates moves to new, bigger offices – Beta House in Denton – built by Bill Hannan.
2000 – 2006
We started work on City Square, Liverpool -pre-let to Department of Constitutional Affairs until 2005.
Hannans 1,000th project starts.
We start work on Brunel University’s £100M Framework.
Vicky Priestley and Bill Dickinson join Hannan Associates to form a marketing team.
Hannans join forces with Uxbridge based Wilkinson Aldcroft.
Dave Green joins Hannan Associates.
Quadrant expansion at Old Trafford – second tiers added to the North-West and North-East stands.
2006 – 2009
We work on two different design schemes for LFC’s proposed new Anfield Stadium, one with AFL Architects and one with Dallas based HKS Architects.
Barbara and Ian get married in France.
The Hannan team take a trip to the Lake District.
In 2008 we enter recession, which hits the construction industry hard.
We set up Spectrum alongside S I Seally to work on projects in the Middle East.
After 52 years in the industry Bill Hannan retires.
2009 – 2011
John Walker and Ian Joyce take over ownership of the company with a renewed focus on quality, service delivery and design ability.
Hannans 2,000th project starts.
Hannans start work on One Angel Square in Manchester, the new Coop HQ, alongside S I Sealy.
Jamie Hall is promoted to Director level.
We start work on Omega Business Park, Warrington.
Hannans forms a Sustainabilty Team and starts providing BREEAM & Low Carbon consultancy services.
We started work on Newbury Racecourse.
Hannans start work on Salford Central for The English Cities Fund – first projects included Vimto Gardens on Chapel Street and the Premier Inn Hotel at New Bailey.
2012 – 2015
Hannans Start work on Logic Leeds Business Park.
Hannans start work on Stockport Exchange.
Colin Burns joins Hannan Associates.
Hannans start work on the Arena Central development in Birmingham
Matt Dalley joins Hannans and the Sustainability team expands.
Shaun Wilkinson joins Hannan Associates.
Bradley Spivey joins Hannan Associates.
Sean Duffy joins Hannan Associates.
The Hannan team take a trip to Dublin.
Juan Carlos joins Hannans to manage our CAD & BIM services.
Steve Meager joins Hannan Associates.
Tom Cutt joins Hannan Associates.
Hannans started sponsoring Stockport Vikings FC.
2016 – 2019
Andy Carrington and Carl Pickford are promoted to Associate Engineers.
We start working for BET365 on the upgrade of the BET365 stadium, home to Stoke City FC.
Charlotte Stansfield joins Hannan Associates to expand the Marketing Team.
Hannans start work on Wirral regeneration.
Hannans start work on Liverpool Waters.
We expand our sustainability services to support Design for Performance modelling & NZC focussed consultancy.
Hannan start work on Ralli Quays, one of the first developments in the UK to pioneer the Design for Performance initiative.
The Hannan team take a trip to Frankfurt.
Ian celebrates his 35th Hannan anniversary.
Jamie celebrates his 25th Hannan anniversary.
Barbara celebrates her 30th Hannan anniversary.
Tom Walker wins Best British Breakthrough Act at the 2019 Brit Awards and we see him live.
2020 – 2023
Jack Hopper joins Hannans to expand the Building Physics team
COVID-19 Pandemic – Nationwide lockdown announced.
Dave Green celebrates his 15th Hannan anniversary.
John Walker celebrates his 25th Hannan anniversary.
Rachael Radman joins the Hannan Associates sustainablity team.
